There are stand along cottages and there are cottage wilderness resorts. There are luxury cottages with all the amenities, there are cottages with selective amenities and there are even some rustic wilderness cabins with no services which are ideal for the truly hard core adventurer.
Northern British Columbia Canada cottage accommodations are located on the shores of lakes, in the thick of forests, on the banks of rivers, on main streets and on mountain tops. However.... cottages, cabins and chalets are often located at the doorstep of nature.
Vacation homes tend to be larger accommodations located closer to communities providing more guest rooms, a separate kitchen and larger living area for groups and families. Vacation homes and rental suites are often conveniently located closer to services, amenities and attractions.
