| Swan
Lake Park is a popular recreation
destination located in Peace River Country south of the community
of Dawson Creek, British Columbia, Canada. Established in 1918,
the park is British Columbia's third oldest park attracting people
to the region who enjoy swimming, canoeing, camping, boating,
fishing and birdwatching.
Located in the high, flat prairies
of the Kiskatinaw Plateau eco system the park is over 65 hectares
in size and falls within the boreal white and black spruce biogeoclimatic
zone. Throughout the park is a good selection of aspen, balsam
poplar and white spruce trees and at one end of the park is the
Tupper River draining into the lake.
The park is divided into two sections separated
by a foot bridge. On one side is a public campground and RV Park
and on the other side of the foot bridge is the day use area and
a boat launch. The parking lot in the day use area is large enough
for boat trailers and many people visit Swan lake to fish for
walleye, northern pike, yellow perch and burbot.
Swan Lake Park is a full service park with many
amenities onsite including a good selection campsites, pit toilets,
swimming dock, fire pits, firewood, tap water, a large day-use
area and a children’s playground. There is a roped off swimming
area with a small sandy beach also, but no lifeguard.
Swan Lake Park is located in a remote region of
North BC with little noise and distractions. Not only do people
appreciate the relaxing wilderness setting but so do the wildlife.
It is not uncommon to view some deer and moose wandering the area,
as well as, songbirds and waterfowl.
The lake is well known as a birdwatching destination.
Some of the birds most common to visit the lake include eastern
kingbird, warblers, blackbirds, killdeer, western grebe, trumpeter
swan, American widgeon, common loon, red-necked grebe, sandpipers,
bufflehead and gulls.

How to
get to Swan Lake: Travel
south for 22 miles (35 km) of Dawson Creek, BC, Canada on Highway
2 pass Pouce Coupe and Tomslake. Take a left at the park sign
on the highway and continue for 6 kilometres along the dirt gravel
road to the park.
