Fort Nelson

Fort Nelson is a northern British Columbia, Canada community located on the historical driving route known as the Alaska Highway. The community is a commercial and business destination for travelers located at the doorstep of the Northern Rocky Mountains.

Fort Nelson is an oil and gas community with a deep industrial background situated in the northern backcountry wilderness. The community is populates both sides of the busy Alaska Highway therefore sees allot of traffic, both commercial and recreational.

Being a developed northern community on a major transportation route there are plenty of services important to travelers located in Fort Nelson. Some of the services available include accommodations, campgrounds, restaurants, banks, grocery stores, gas stations, liquor stores, internet, laundromats, post office and repair shops.

There are many activities and adventures to enjoy year round in Fort Nelson. And because the community is located close to so many rivers and mountains like the Northern Rocky Mountains.. and the Muskwa, Prophet, Tetsa and Fort Nelson Rivers there is plenty of things to do.

Some of the summer activities enjoyed in the Fort Nelson region include fishing, canoeing, kayaking, rafting, hiking, horseback riding, off roading, wilderness camping, backpacking, boating, birdwatching, picnicking, sightseeing and wildlife watching.

During the winter months, after the snow has fallen, the backcountry roads and hiking trails become snowmobile and cross country ski trails. After the temperatures drop and the lakes freeze over ice fishing season begins.

In the Northern Rocky Mountains located west of the community of Fort Nelson, BC are some very popular parks - the Stone Mountain and Muncho Lake Provincial Parks. Both with many adventures and camping opportunities.

One of the highlights traveling the Alaska Highway from Fort Nelson, BC to Watson Lake, Yukon is the Liard River Hot Springs Provincial Park.
