Riding in North B.C. eh! The vast backcountry of endless
streams, lakes and forest provides many square kilometres of remote
wilderness to explore by horseback. The gravel roads and wooded
trails combine to provide the routes required for horseback riders
to explore the backcountry.
Many communities have developed a horseback riding
trail system. Sometimes a trail map is posted at the trailhead
developed by the local horse groups. Some trail systems share
the path with hikers while others see only horses.
The horseback riding clubs located in the communities
often locate themselves near major horseback riding trail systems.
The tour groups often operate nearby from one of the neighbouring
farms. Each tour group provides horses, lessons and guides. Some
multi-day horseback riding tours include overnight accommodations
and meals.
Many horseback riding tours throughout North BC
operate guided trips in provincial and national parks. All horseback
tours permitted in the parks must obey signage permitting horses
on the trail. Some of the Northern BC Provincial Parks encouraging
horseback riding include Babine
Lake and Babine
Mountains near Smithers...
Seven Sisters Provincial Park and Seven Sisters Protected Area
located between Terrace,
BC and Hazelton...
and the Uncha Mountain Red Hills Park on Francois Lake near Burns
Lake, BC.
