Cow Bay
, Prince Rupert, BC, Canada: A unique, quaint
marine shopping village within Prince Rupert, B.C. city limits.
The Cow Bay Village is a step into the past with streets lined
with well restored heritage buildings housing retail stores, art
galleries, restaurants, coffee houses, a pub, a marina and a tourist
info centre.
The Cow Bay area is all easily
accessible by foot located on the northeast corner of Prince Rupert
perched on the shore overlooking the ocean - kitty korner from
the Pacific Mariners Park
and the Museum of Northern BC.
Originally, Cow Bay was referred
to as Cameron Cove. In 1908 the region was renamed after farmers
started to unload cows from a barge when arriving in the bay.
Prince Rupert's first hospital was build on the Cow Bay
flats and in 1912 the old sternwheeler was acquired to be used
as a clubhouse.
In 1919 the Love Electric Building (still standing)
was built and in 1922 a road was constructed leading into the
town. In 1940 the Breakers Building (now a pub) was erected and
used as a Chandlers Shop and Supply Store.
All in all, Cow Bay is a treat
to visit while exploring shops, sights and smells when visiting
the community of Prince Rupert, B.C.

How to Get to
Cow Bay : Travel
towards the hub of Prince Rupert along Highway
16 (Yellowhead Hwy) towards the waterfront. The hwy
turns into McBride St.
Continue straight down McBride and take a right
on 1st Avenue. Drive a short distance and find a parking spot
or walk to Cow Bay.
