Lake Beach Park is a small community recreation
lake located just north of Smithers, British Columbia, Canada.
The park is surrounded by trees, backed by mountains and situated
in a rural neighbourhood. And being so close to Smithers, it is
visited by many people during the summer months for swimming,
canoeing and fishing.
The park area on Kathlyn Lake includes a small
day use area with a boat launch for unloading roof top canoes
and small boats. In the summer months there are many boats trolling
on the lake fishing for Cutthroat Trout up to 1 - 1.5 lbs.
The lake a pretty fishing spot, although parking
can get a bit tight and in the summer it can get busy. The ease
of access, the close proximity to Smithers and, the fact, the
lake is stocked regularly with trout all make Kathlyn a popular
destination for fisherman.
On shore the park area enjoys a small sandy beach
and a larger grassy field. There are picnic tables in the sun
and in the shade. Sitting on the edge of the grassy field are
wooden viewing benches so to relax and enjoy the water views.
Tucked away in the back of the park are the change rooms and outhouses.
From the park one can partially see Hudson
Bay Mountain and Glacier Gulch.
This would make sense since the glacier and the Twin
Falls hiking trails are located just up the road. Anyone visiting
the area should try to make the time to take a quick hike to the
two waterfalls. As for hiking to the glacier, make sure you are
prepare as the Glacier Gulch hike is not a hike to do on a whim.
