Malkow
Lookout Trail travels through farmer's fields,
along grassy meadows and among sub-alpine forest trees leading
up to an old forestry lookout providing views of the Bulkley Valley
including Hudson Bay Mountain and the glacier, the Babine
Mountains, the community of Smithers, BC and the Telkwa Mountain
Range.
The Malkow Lookout Trail passes through three residential
properties. It is one of those community trails that would not
exist if not for the cooperation and hospitality of the property
owners in the area. Out of respect, do not wander off the hiking
trail when hiking to this Bulkley Valley viewpoint
The 3 km ( 5 mi.) hiking trail should take no longer
than 1-2 hours to complete. The hiking trail is a family friendly
trail that all ages should be able enjoy. The trail, however,
does lead uphill on a gradual climb to the lookout so be aware
it will take some effort. If hiking with children please respect
the property and preach the importance of staying on the trail.
When hiking through the properties there are gates
to pass through. Please close gates as you pass through them as
they keep animals in and out. Once at the forestry lookout there
are some spectacular views of the whole valley and the far off
mountain ranges. On a clear day it is very camera worthy.
At the top of the lookout there is a picnic table.
It is a great place to enjoy a picnic with family and friends.
It is very possible that your group could be the only one on the
hill that day. It is important to note this is mainly a hiking
trail and does not allow motorized vehicles and discourages mountain
bikes.
