Snowmobiling in North BC: The wilderness countryside of Northern BC becomes a winter wonderland after the snow has fallen and the temperatures have dropped. The mountain ranges, the alpine meadows and the frozen lakes take on a whole new look and feel when covered in blankets of snow.

After the snow has fallen there is a transformation in recreation in the north. Snowmobiles, snowshoes, snowboards and skies come out of the closet. Winter creates a look and feel that puts a smile on many snowmobilers face because in the winter months the trails and gravel backcountry roads transform into snowmobile routes.

Some of the communities in North BC have created snowmobile clubs. An association that usually creates snowmobile routes and maintains a section of the mountain assigned for snowmobile use. Contacting the clubs is a good start to planning a snowmobile adventure. They will be able to provide directions and maps to the snowmobile recreation areas in the community.

There are tour companies in many communities. The tour companies usually operate outside of the communities in the backcountry or from one of the ski mountains in the area. The adventure companies providing snowmobile tours usually include lessons, the machine and a guide. Some multi day tours include the accommodations and meals.

Many of the communities in the region have created snowmobile routes following alongside the roads of the community. In the summer ATVs use the trails and in the winter the snowmobiles ride the trails. It is not uncommon to see people going and coming from town riding a snowmobile.
