| Snowshoeing
in North BC: The wilderness countryside of Northern BC
becomes a winter snowshoe wonderland after the white stuff has
fallen and the temperatures have dropped. The mountain ridges,
the alpine meadows and the frozen lakes take on a whole new look
and feel when covered in blankets of snow.
Snowmobiles, snowshoes, snowboards and skies come
out of the closet after the snow has settled. Winter puts a smile
on many winter enthusiast faces because in the winter months the
trails and gravel backcountry roads transform into snowshoe trails.
Hiking trail maps are available in many of the communities.
This is a good idea as many of the summer hiking trails become
fantastic snowshoe routes once they are blanketed in snow. It
is always a good idea to let someone know where you are going
and when you will return. Never snowshoe the backcountry alone.
Be aware and be prepared.
Another destination for snowshoe adventure is up
the local ski hills. The adventure companies providing snowshoe
tours usually include lessons, equipment and a guide. Some multi
day tours include the accommodations and meals.
