Little Heritage House is a multi-personality
building located in the hub of Terrace, B.C. at the bottom of
Kalum Hill. The historical home acts - not only as an historical
tour exploring the past of the community of Terrace - but also
as a railway station, a mini museum with historical artifacts,
a carving shed and an information centre for downtown tourists.
Arriving in the community by snowshoe from Kitimat,
BC, George Little was the first European to locate
to Terrace and call it home in March of 1905. George Little built
the home in 1914 as his main residence.
After George past away, the home lingered for years,
moving around from Lakelse Ave to Hall Street and then to its
final resting spot by the railway tracks on Kalum Street.
Many moves and harsh weather took a toll on the
home as it was soon showing signs of decay and deterioration.
The Terrace community came together to save the home and restore
it as a heritage site. The attraction is open to the public 7
days a week.
Below the George Little House
is a carving shed which houses some of the most talented First
Nation artists in the area. Onsite are many examples of First
Nation art in the making and it is a great opportunity to observe
the different stages of carving from conception to finish. The
available times to view the carvers does vary as the shed operates
on a need basis.
